SP Monitor
The motivation behind SPMonitor tool is to provide better understanding about the work processes and the functionality of the system. For example, in the WP8 application scenario the approach is closely related to the concept of user education and user confidence as it allows monitoring the Cooking Guide system behavior (e.g. the decisions it makes during the process) and/or the work processes by utilizing different visualization techniques providing an overall picture of the whole ecosystem. In the WP10 scenario SPMonitor visualizes workflows enhancing the global awareness between different stakeholders (e.g. quality inspectors, maintenance workers) and helps service personnel to detect anomalies during the execution of Work Orders. SPMonitor provides also some interactive features, for example, the user may acquire a more detailed description of a certain anomaly or task.
SPMonitor enhances the sharing of knowledge by integrating information from multiple, heterogeneous sources by utilizing semantic technologies to provide visually rich and informative workflow representations to the users. SPMonitor annotates all information using mechanisms provided by semantic technologies. For example, when the monitor receives non-semantic workflow descriptions, it saves them semantically and annotates the data with descriptive metadata. Next SPMonitor stores the workflow activities into an RDF data model and finally visualizes the workflows. Below is presented the compositional structure of SPMonitor.
Currently, SPMonitor is in its design & implementation phase. So far, some UI visualization mock-ups have been created and tested with end users. Below, a visualization mock-up that is created for WP8 application scenario is presented. The monitor view shows the progress of a workflow in a cooking situation and additionally a visualization of a rule that is associated to the current particular workflow activity. According to the rule, Cooking Guide’s audio features are automatically turned off if music is detected during the last 20 seconds.
Respectively in the WP10 scenario SPMonitor visualizes workflows enhancing the global awareness between different stakeholders (e.g. quality inspectors, maintenance workers) and helps service personnel to detect anomalies during the execution of Work Orders. An UI mock-up of a visualization that presents global view of a work process and the current activity is presented below.
